To scuba divers, Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef represents some of the finest and most exotic diving and snorkelling in the world. The Great Barrier Reef is a massive chain of coral reefs and beyond this structure of living organisms lies the cleanest body of water on the globe!

Silverswift operates 3 sites a day, depending on weather conditions, visibility at the various sites and the mix of passengers on board the vessel on the day. Flexibility has been developed into the program to ensure the best possible experience for Silverswift guests.

  • Up to 3 dives can be enjoyed.
  • Outer Reef sites visited include Thetford Reef, Milln Reef, Pellowe & Flynn Reef.
  • Wetsuits are included in the ticket price.
  • All snorkelling, swimming and diving is from the vessel.
  • Access to the water is from a large submerged platform at the rear of the boat.

SilverswiftIt is a wonderful, exciting and indeed memorable experience to dive the Great Barrier Reef. On a diving holiday you'll swap dive stories with others, you will encounter mostly smooth seas, you will dive beautiful reefs, deep drop offs, see gorgeous marine life, explore tunnels and caves, and bask in the sun between dives on the deck of a boat or sun drenched beach.

Scuba diving has always been a big attraction along the Great Barrier Reef but in recent years it has become simply enormous. It is some of the most spectacular in the world with rich marine life, stunning coral formations, comfortable year round water temperatures and amazing visibility. Whether you are a beginner or expert diver Australia's Great Barrier Reef should be at the top of your list.

TurtleThe main consideration with scuba diving is that it requires knowledge and care. You can sling a mask on and be a snorkeller in minutes - add an air tank on your back and diving becomes a whole new experience.

Although learning to dive requires some application, it is not difficult to learn and it does not require any sort of superhero strength or fitness. In fact one thing you quickly learn is that doing things with the minimum expenditure of energy is what diving is all about. Your diving time is determined by your tank of air and the more gently you do things the longer that air is going to last.

clown fishWith numerous reef locations available, each site offers a new experience, selected for its unique variety of marine life and corals. In between water activities, relax on the expansive sundecks overlooking the Coral Sea.

Your crew will ensure you have all you need to make the most of your day on board, which includes full bar facilities, a hot and cold tropical buffet lunch, fresh water showers, morning and afternoon tea.

Conditions

Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude some people from diving. For advice contact our Silver Series office. Minimum age for diving is 12 years.

A wait of 12 hours is recommended but preferably 24 hours, if doing multiple dives, before ascending to an altitude of 300 metres or greater. On very rare occasions, services can be subject to the effect of weather or unforeseen circumstances requiring changes to the brochured itinerary. Should Silverswift or Silversonic not operate for any reason passengers will be offered an alternative day or a refund authorised. Silver Series does not exercise a cancellation policy.

Snorkelling can be a strenuous activity. Please use caution and inform our crew of any medical conditions.

INTRODUCTORY DIVING:

PADIFor those who want to experience the reef from a different angle, an introductory scuba dive is the best way. No previous experience is necessary. Onboard instructors take visitors step by step through the lecture, the equipment and the dive, ensuring all facets of the experience are comfortable and most of all enjoyable.

On the outward journey to the Reef, instructors assess the suitability of potential introductory divers and ask those interested to complete the required paperwork. Once completed, the new divers are taught fundamentals of diving as well as the use of equipment. All equipment, including wetsuits and prescription masks (if required) are included in the price of the introductory dive.

CERTIFIED DIVING:

For those divers who already hold a certificate, diving is available on Silversonic. Professional underwater dive guides accompany all dives at no extra charge, ensuring maximum safety and enjoyment. ***All diving is subject to a medical questionnaire.

FOREIGN LANGAUGE

Silverswift’s dive staff include Japanese, French, Italian and German diving instructors to ensure comprehensive dive briefs in all of these languages. Enquiries can be made as to whether these staff members are on board on the day of travel.  All language dive brief cards are available at all times.

LYCRA SUITS:

Lycra suits are available for hire for adults and children entering the water, providing sun protection and reducing the possibility of stings and irritations. The suits have long sleeves / legs with hood and mittens. There is a hire charge of $5 per adult and $2 per child.

VIDEOGRAPHER/ PHOTOGRAPHER:

To capture the memory (or make friends and neighbours slightly envious), underwater cameras are available for sale, along with underwater videos shot by professional photographers. Videos are usually supplied for divers at an additional charge. We also have a photographer onboard who sells digital photographs of guests onboard and in the water.

EQUIPMENT:

Silverswift is committed to ensuring all divers and snorkellers are provided with the latest equipment to compliment your reef experience. The entire vessel has been fitted with dive + snorkel tanks and equipment - Aqualung / US Divers short and long wetsuits. Prescription masks are available
